Don’t visit Vrlovka Cave – bats have a nursery there!
Vrlovka cave is an internationally important underground site for bats under UNEP/EUROBATS Agreement and part of the Natura 2000 ecological network. Despite that fact – it is open for tourists in the most sensitive time for bats – when pregnant females are gathering and delivering babies. I made photos of the nurseries in May and babies in June during bat monitoring research. In this way, I ask you not to visit Vrlovka Cave so you may ensure the survival of bats.
I wish you a Happy International Day of Nature protection and European Natura 2000 Day! I hope the Republic of Croatia knows that too.
