The subterranean fauna and bat fauna are protected by the 2005 Nature Protection Act, as well as the Ordinance on the Proclamation of Protected and Strictly Protected Wild Taxa, which prohibit their killing, disturbance and threatening in any way and any destruction of their habitats, i.e. caves and pits.

In addition to general protection of the subterranean fauna and their habitats, the Špilja u kamenolomu Tounj (Cave in Tounj Quarry) is especially protected having a category of geomorphological nature monument (preventive protection). Owing to long-term persistence of our members and repetitive warnings by state institutions, the spring areas of the Zagorska Mrežnica and Rupečica Rivers are soon to be proclaimed protected spring areas.
