The field survey at the Paklenica National Park, part 2

In the period of  August 23rd to 27th, 2021, as part of the project “Biospeleological and speleological research of underground fauna and caves of Paklenica Nacional Park”, we explored cave fauna in nine caves and pits. Five we explored for the National Park for the first time. We made topographic survey for four of them, and the fifth one called Natina jama pit during this field research was explored to the depth of 100 m. This pit is also a new site for the narrow-necked cave beetle (Leptodirus hochenwartii Schmidt, 1832)! This beetle was the first described troglobiotic invertebrate in the world and is on the list of target species of Natura 2000 ecological network.
